Internal Linking for Contractors

Internal links are the map Google uses to find your pages and decide which ones matter. Most contractor sites never draw one. We rebuild the structure so the pages that sell stop sitting at the bottom of the pile.

A sitemap tells Google a page exists. A link tells Google the page matters.

What We Rebuild in Your Link Structure

· Service Register

This is structural work on pages you already have. Nothing new has to be written before it starts, and no URL changes unless you approve it separately.

Full Link Graph CrawlWe crawl every page and map what links to what, so the work runs off your actual structure rather than the one you think you have.
Spec 01
Orphan Page RecoveryEvery page reachable only from the sitemap gets found and given a real link path from a relevant parent page.
Spec 02
Click Depth ReductionRevenue pages buried four or five clicks deep get pulled up through hub pages and contextual links in body copy.
Spec 03
Anchor Text RewriteGeneric anchors get replaced with descriptive ones that name the destination, without stuffing one phrase across every link on the site.
Spec 04
Hub and Spoke BuildoutService and city pages get organized into clusters with a real hub, the same structure behind local service pages.
Spec 05
Blog to Service RoutingExisting posts that already pull traffic get linked into the service pages they should be feeding.
Spec 06
Redirect and Broken Link CleanupInternal links pointing at redirects or dead URLs get repointed to the live destination.
Spec 07
Linking Standard You KeepA written rule for how every future page gets linked in, so the structure does not drift back within a year.

Links Decide What Google Finds and What It Weighs

· Why It Matters

Google discovers and ranks your pages by following links. A sitemap gets a page on the list. Internal links are what tell a crawler the page is worth coming back to, how deep it sits, and what it is about, through the words in the link itself.

Most contractor sites grow by accretion. A service page here, a city page there, a blog post someone wrote two years ago. Nobody goes back and connects them, so the site looks complete in the sitemap and behaves like a pile of loose pages to a crawler. That is why pages sit in Search Console as discovered but never indexed.

Structure amplifies pages, it does not create them.

If a page has nothing worth ranking on it, linking to it harder will not fix that. What internal linking does fix is a good page nobody can reach. We tell you which problem you actually have before we take the work.

Four Weeks, Then a Standing Rule

· How We Do It
01 · Crawl and Map

We crawl the full site, pull your Search Console coverage report, and build the actual link graph. You get the map showing which pages are orphaned and how deep everything sits.

02 · Design the Structure

We decide which pages are hubs, which are spokes, and where the revenue pages need to sit. You approve the structure before anything on the live site changes.

03 · Implement

Links go in, anchors get rewritten, orphans get connected, broken internal links get repointed. Every change is logged so it can be reversed.

04 · Recrawl and Verify

We recrawl once the changes settle and check Search Console for movement on pages that were previously discovered but not indexed. That is the read on whether it worked.

The only ranking factor you fully control is the shape of your own site.

Internal Linking, Answered Straight

· Questions
Isn’t this just adding links? Why pay someone for it?

Adding links is easy. Deciding which pages receive them, in what proportion, with what anchor text, is the work. Done wrong it dilutes the pages you care about instead of strengthening them. The crawl and the map are what you are paying for.

How is this different from the Technical SEO service?

Technical SEO is the full audit across speed, markup, crawlability, and structure. Internal linking is one layer of it, broken out for sites where structure is the specific bottleneck. If you do not know which you need, start with the audit.

How many internal links should a page have?

There is no magic number, and anyone who gives you one is guessing. What matters is that every link earns its place and points somewhere a reader would want to go. Our operating standard is that no revenue page sits more than three clicks from the homepage.

Will this break my existing rankings?

Adding and repointing internal links does not change your URLs, so nothing you currently rank for goes away. If a restructure needs slug changes, those get handled as a separate decision with redirects mapped first. We do not rename URLs quietly.

How long before I see anything?

Indexing changes show first, usually within a few weeks of the recrawl, and they show in Search Console rather than in your phone ringing. Ranking and traffic movement runs behind that. Anyone promising faster is selling you something.

Can my web guy just do this?

If he can produce your current link graph and tell you which pages are orphaned, yes. Most cannot, because it takes crawling the site rather than opening the menu editor. Ask him for the orphan list before you decide.
