GBP Service Menu Optimization

Your Google Business Profile has a Services section most contractors fill out once and forget.

The numbers

Built in full, it tells homeowners exactly what you do, reinforces your category relevance with Google, and turns more profile visits into calls.

300Characters per service description. Most contractors leave this space blank.
No capPractical limit on how many services you can list, so the menu can cover everything you do.
0Ad dollars the services section costs. It is execution, not media spend.

Your Service Menu Is Empty or an Afterthought

A homeowner lands on your profile looking for one specific service. They tap Services and find a blank section, a bare list with no descriptions, or service names that do not match what they need. They press back and call the next contractor. That sequence plays out every day on under-built profiles.

The usual failures compound: the section is blank or holds two vague entries, the names use your internal terminology instead of the words homeowners search, nothing is grouped the way a person in a hurry actually looks, the menu was never updated when you added a service line, and the descriptions carry none of the keywords that would reinforce your category rankings.

Your service menu is a conversion tool.

Treat it like one. A homeowner who reads a clear description of exactly what they need calls at a far higher rate than one staring at a generic service name with no context, or a blank section with nothing to act on.

What Service Menu Optimization Includes

We build a complete, keyword-rich service menu covering everything you offer, organized the way homeowners think and written to convert.

Service Inventory and Naming

We audit everything you offer and rename each service in the language homeowners actually search, not your internal shorthand. Condensing Unit Replacement becomes AC Replacement, in the words a customer types.

Description Writing

Every service gets a keyword-optimized description up to the 300-character limit that tells the homeowner what you do, why it matters, and what makes the work worth calling about. Conversion copy, not filler.

Service Group Organization

We group services to mirror how homeowners think about the problem. Someone with no heat should not have to scan past drain cleaning and water heaters to reach furnace repair.

Ongoing Service Updates

When you add a service, we update the profile right away. A menu that reflects your current work reads as more trustworthy to both homeowners and Google than one six months out of date. Included on our GBP management plan.

Inventory, Write, Organize, Maintain

Inventory

We list every service you run, flag the ones worth leads, and set aside the low-margin or fully-booked work you do not want to promote.

Write and Name

We rename services to match how homeowners search and write a keyword-optimized description for each, aimed at the calls you actually want.

Organize and Maintain

We group the menu the way a homeowner scans it, publish, and keep it current as your services change so the profile never drifts out of date.

Every service written well is another search you can win, at zero ad spend.

Turn Your Profile Into a Sales Rep That Never Sleeps

A complete service menu answers homeowner questions before they call, and makes sure the ones who do call are ready to book. It costs nothing and carries no commitment.

It is built by an operator rather than an agency.

Questions

What owners ask about this.

Do service descriptions help with rankings?

Their direct ranking weight sits below categories and reviews, but they add keyword signals that reinforce your category choices. The bigger role is conversion: a homeowner who reads a clear description of exactly what they need calls far more often than one facing a bare service name.

Should I list every service, even small ones?

List the services you actually want leads for. If drain cleaning is low-margin and you are already booked, do not feature it. A call for work you cannot or will not do is a wasted call. We optimize the menu around the jobs that are most profitable for you.

Can I add prices to the service menu?

The profile allows optional price fields, but for contractors we usually advise against listing them, since most work is project-based and varies by scope. Better to use the description to set expectations on process and quality, then hold the estimate conversation in person where you control the frame.

How is the Services section different from Products?

Services covers the labor-based work you perform. Products covers physical items you sell. For most contractors, Services is the section that matters. A water-treatment company selling softener equipment may have real use for Products too, but it is secondary for the trades.

How often should the menu be updated?

Any time your offering changes: a service added, an old one dropped, seasonal work switched on or off. Beyond that, a quarterly review keeps descriptions accurate and keyword-relevant. A current profile signals an active, trustworthy business to Google and homeowners alike.

See what the audit finds.

Capstone is run by an operator with more than ten years in marketing, seven of them running it inside an eight-figure Northwest Ohio home services company, so the audit comes from someone who has had to make these calls with real money on the line. It costs nothing and it does not require a meeting.
